Terhathum/The posting of caretakers at the rural track roads and under construction roads of the district has facilitated regular transportation.
The caretakers are mandated with clearing stones, landslide debris, diverting the flow of streams, repairing the sewerage and notifying the concerned authorities of bigger damages to the roads. This has been effective in stopping regular road obstructions and made it easier for the vehicles.
The District Technical Office under the Strengthening National Rural Transportation Programme (SNRTP) stationed 54 caretakers in seven agricultural roads of the district last year.
Srijana Lama, a local of Khamlalung of Aathrai Rural Municipality – 2, said transportation has been made easier as the deployment of the caretakers has prevented the road standards from degenerating.
“The roads are raw and narrow, despite which regular care and maintenance has made transportation easier,” she confided. The posting of caretakers has allowed regular transportation during the monsoon season as well.
District Technical Office Chief, Bharat Kumar Yadav, said the caretakers do not let the road standards from slipping backward and keep the roads clean with regular care and maintenance.
